Tangerine

Text animation and videography

  • Tangerine is a text animation and video project entirely inspired by a fruit definition that I found very sweet and cheerful. I was assigned in my 4D course to create a text animation of any text and make it come to life.

  • I had several weeks of concepting visual aspects and ways in which I could lay out each sentence, word and letter. I wanted the animation to embody the sweet happiness that comes from a little tangerine. The whole project was built around the color and form of tangerines.

I shot the film of a bunch of different types of oranges. I worked to get an array of shots to capture different textures, lights and movements of each unique citrus. I edited the film with greyscale and duotones for many of the shots, and then decided it would be pretty to pull in some of the real colors of the actual oranges as the definition suggested. The typeface is a playful san serif that I enjoyed. I hope that this video pulls viewers through a thrilling sense movement.
